How would I call a cell phone in Dupont Circle, D.C. from the U.S. with an Aussie phone with global roaming?

Hi guys,

Here's the deal. I just recently came on a holiday to the U.S. with an Australian mobile phone with global roaming. When I tried to sent a text message to a cell phone in Dupont Circle, Washington D.C., it didn't get through. I think this must because the global roaming service essentially means my phone acts as though it were in Australia, rather than becoming a U.S. phone.

I'm just wondering what the right extensions are to get a text message through from here in NYC. If you don't know, the extensions from Australia would be swell.

Cheers,

Franklint|||You need to put in the country and state code first.

For example, when texting somewhere in the state of New York you would type in +1212 and then the rest of the number, emitting the first zero of the number if there is one. +1 is the US country phone code, and 212 being New York's state phone code. Like 07 for Queensland. If you're calling from a mobile you use the same principle.

If you were to call using a calling card, or from an Australian home phone, you would dial 0011 1 212 etc

Hope this has helped!
