After the world fought itself in a giant, all-encompassing war, only a few survive. Those who do don't do it honestly, or not in the modern-day sense of the word. Six girls- all very different, yet very much the same- have banded together as a means of survival. They steal what they need, and are willing to kill for each other- and in the streets on New York, that might happen more than normal. Then, one day, a new group comes to town. They force their way into the girl's life, and threaten to change everything But they all must learn to work together when a new threat arises- larger and more powerful than anything any of them have seen before.|||It sounds quite interesting! Your last line where you introduced a new and dangerous problem was what reeled me in, your vagueness was good :)

It just sounds really really violent and as long as there is not too much blood and gore, i would definitely give it a try!

And if there was a hint of romance as well, thats a definite plus!

MASSIVE NEW THREAT TO THE ENVIRONMENT PLEASE READ AND POST SOLUTIONS?

Laughing Gas: The Latest Threat to the Ozone Layer

Humankind doesn't have a great track record when it comes to cleaning up environmental messes, but there was one time we really outdid ourselves. That was back in 1989, when over 190 nations signed the Montreal Protocol, phasing out the use of chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs). The decade before, scientists had discovered that CFCs were blowing a hole in the ozone layer over Antarctica, exposing us to dangerous ultraviolet radiation and boosting the risk of skin cancer. Today, CFCs are no longer in widespread use, and the ozone layer appears to be on the mend.

But even with that battle all but won, scientists are finding a new man-made threat to the ozone layer: nitrous oxide (N2O), otherwise known as laughing gas. A study published in the Aug. 28 Science found that N2O - a by-product of agricultural fertilizer and a number of other industrial processes - is now the biggest ozone-depleting gas in the air, and could present a real threat to the ozone layer in coming decades. And worse, unlike CFCs, N2O - which also adds to global warming - is not regulated by the Montreal Protocol, meaning there is no global effort to try to reduce emissions. (Read "Can Steven Chu Win the Fight Over Global Warming?")

"Pretty soon human-caused N2O emissions will be greater than all other ozone-depleting substances combined," says John Daniel, an atmospheric scientist with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and a co-author of the Science study. "It will be the dominant gas in the future."

The idea that N2O poses a threat to the ozone layer is not new, but the Science study is the first comprehensive look at the exact concentrations and consequences of the gas. The investigators found that although N2O is only one-sixtieth as dangerous to the ozone layer as CFCs on a gram-by-gram basis, the sheer amount of N2O - each year nearly 1 billion metric tons of CO2 equivalent are released globally - means that it now poses a more significant threat to the atmosphere. (N2O emissions are calculated in terms of their impact on global warming, and CO2 is used as a kind of base level.) (See Q%26amp;A: "Regional Nuclear War and the Environment.")

The news isn't all bad: the fact that scientists can now turn so much of their attention to the dangers of N2O is in part because CFC levels have dropped so low, thanks to the Montreal Protocol. But N2O is likely to prove much more difficult than CFCs to phase out. While CFCs had a relatively narrow range of uses - and chemical companies like DuPont were able to come up with replacements quickly - N2O is all around us, tied intimately to our industrial way of life. The millions of tons of soil fertilizer used in U.S. agriculture alone add N2O into the atmosphere, as do livestock manure, sewage treatment and automobiles. And it's not just our doing: two-thirds of global N2O emissions come from the planet itself, as bacteria in soil and the oceans break down nitrogen. Though N2O is regulated by the Kyoto Protocol of 1997 as a greenhouse gas - and one that is nearly 300 times more potent for global warming than CO2 - that treaty doesn't cover all nations, and will expire in 2012. "The question is how are we going to reduce these gases," says Daniel. "We need to bridge that gap between science and policy."

Such a multifaceted problem will require a multifront solution, and some good ideas might come up at the U.N. Climate Change Summit in Copenhagen in December. Reducing the quantity of fertilizer used in farming, switching to a less meat-heavy diet and lowering the number of cars on the road while boosting fuel economy will all help. The planet itself will continue churning out its own N2O, of course, but the planet did that for eons. It was our N2O production that pushed the gas past the tipping point - requiring that we now push it back. "It can be a win-win phasing out these gases, both for climate and the ozone," says Robert Portman, an atmospheric scientist at NOAA and a co-author of the study. If we fail, we won't be laughing about nitrous oxide.

Guys this appears to be pretty darn scary but ALSO a great opportunity to quickly change peoples minds about policy. I think if we introduce this to the public there will be more awareness and a quicker need to take down the problems.

Please post your soluttion and/or thoughts.|||I must agree that the threat from dihydrogen monoxide is far more severe than n2o could ever be. 99% of all n2o produced is for use by dentists and so can never be a true environmental threat like h2o already is.|||My solution:

Stop pretending to be something your not.|||Woooo.... was there a fear-monger convention recently?

Everyone who's a scientist knows that laughing gas goes up to the Bozone layer.|||Why doesn't somebody just come out and say why they want to control energy.|||that question is way too long|||Does this mean we have to limit the use of Viagra? Viagra works by increasing nitrous oxide levels in the bloodstream...

Seriously, this is the problem of any manmade edict. As soon as you create a rule, people start looking for ways to circumvent it instead of showing some social responsibility by honoring the intent of the regulation.

In my first job, I tended to monitor the mainframe logs surrediptiously to sort out what my computer operators were doing at night and would investigate and take action to correct any misbehaviour such as sleeping on the job without revealing how I knew of the transgressions. Of course, there were limited metrics to monitor such as operator response time to tape mount requests from which to infer the overnight events. After I transferred stateside, my replacement, against my advice, decided to make the log analysis public and simply have the rule that whomever had the lowest average mount times would get a free lunch every week at a decent restaurant. One fella always got the free lunch and eventually my replacement started to wonder why and when the issue was investigated, it turned out that the particular employee was simply suspending all jobs so that nothing would be running hence his response time to any requests was zero during his shift.

If you remember, during the recent economic disheavals, one of the criticisms against Obama's interventions was that the economy would recover faster once the investors were confident that Obama would not intercede. Obama was reserving the right to adjust his intervention to account for issues that he had not foreseen and the investors were waiting till when they could be certain that whatever loophole they discovered would not be plugged before they got their return on investment.

We've never really progressed from playing soccer in the school yard when we would shout out "No Changees" whenever too many rules were being made on the fly.

There is nothing new in this. It is typical hysterical non scientific fear mongering and paranoia from the left.

Our sky was black from the burning of coal in industry and homes.

Today, Ohio is over 30% of Ohio is forested. Our streams and Lake Erie are comparatively, beautifully clean. Wildlife is so abundantly back that we can enjoy seeing deer, beaver and otters even in our suburbs and urban parks. Our air is, comparatively, marvelous.

What kind of fountain pen would be suitable for me?

I know that there are many well-known manufacturers of fountain pens such as Mont Blanc, S.T. Dupont, Waterman, Parker, etc.|||I love writing with a fountain pen and like Mont Blanc and Waterman. However, it isn't a one-size fit all as we have different hand sizes, pressure, etc. In the old days you could walk into a store that office supplies, etc. and they would have several for you to try so that you could get a feel for what felt best. I don't know that today's Staples, Office Max, or maybe even a Hallmark would allow if you don't have one of those really old fashioned stores around but you could check out pens on-line and see what their return policy is. If it is a good pen they should allow you to return it if it doesn't work for you. I think writing with a fountain pen makes you slow down and think more about what you are writing and improves your penmanship - especially in a journal. Enjoy whatever you get as nothing writes better than a wonderful fountain pen! (I also think it says a lot about the person using it!)

Downtown Farmers Market Draws D.C. Crowd

First lady Michelle Obama was on hand to support the opening of a farmers market that closed Vermont Avenue between H and Eye Streets NW to traffic Thursday afternoon.

By Dana Milbank

Friday, September 18, 2009

Let's say you're preparing dinner and you realize with dismay that you don't have any certified organic Tuscan kale. What to do?

Here's how Michelle Obama handled this very predicament Thursday afternoon:

The Secret Service and the D.C. police brought in three dozen vehicles and shut down H Street, Vermont Avenue, two lanes of I Street and an entrance to the McPherson Square Metro station. They swept the area, in front of the Department of Veterans Affairs, with bomb-sniffing dogs and installed magnetometers in the middle of the street, put up barricades to keep pedestrians out, and took positions with binoculars atop trucks. Though the produce stand was only a block or so from the White House, the first lady hopped into her armored limousine and pulled into the market amid the wail of sirens.

Then, and only then, could Obama purchase her leafy greens. "Now it's time to buy some food," she told several hundred people who came to watch. "Let's shop!"

Cowbells were rung. Somebody put a lei of marigolds around Obama's neck. The first lady picked up a straw basket and headed for the "Farm at Sunnyside" tent, where she loaded up with organic Asian pears, cherry tomatoes, multicolored potatoes, free-range eggs and, yes, two bunches of Tuscan kale. She left the produce with an aide, who paid the cashier as Obama made her way back to the limousine.

There's nothing like the simple pleasures of a farm stand to return us to our agrarian roots.

The first lady had encouraged Freshfarm Markets, the group that runs popular farmers markets in Dupont Circle and elsewhere, to set up near the White House, and she helped get the approvals to shut down Vermont Avenue during rush hour on Thursdays. But the result was quite the opposite of a quaint farmers market. Considering all the logistics, each tomato she purchased had a carbon footprint of several tons.

The promotion of organic and locally grown food, though an admirable cause, is a risky one for the Obamas, because there's a fine line between promoting healthful eating and sounding like a snob. The president, when he was a candidate in 2007, got in trouble in Iowa when he asked a crowd, "Anybody gone into Whole Foods lately and see what they charge for arugula?" Iowans didn't have a Whole Foods.

For that reason, it's probably just as well that the first lady didn't stop by the Endless Summer Harvest tent yesterday. The Virginia farm had a sign offering "tender baby arugula" -- hydroponically grown, pesticide free -- and $5 for four ounces, which is $20 a pound.

Obama, in her brief speech to the vendors and patrons, handled the affordability issue by pointing out that people who pay with food stamps would get double the coupon value at the market. Even then, though, it's hard to imagine somebody using food stamps to buy what the market offered: $19 bison steak from Gunpowder Bison, organic dandelion greens for $12 per pound from Blueberry Hill Vegetables, the Piedmont Reserve cheese from Everson Dairy at $29 a pound. Rounding out the potential shopping cart: $4 for a piece of "walnut dacquoise" from the Praline Bakery, $9 for a jumbo crab cake at Chris's Marketplace, $8 for a loaf of cranberry-walnut bread and $32 for a bolt of yarn.

The first lady said the market would particularly appeal to federal employees in nearby buildings to "pick up some good stuff for dinner." Yet even they might think twice about spending $3 for a pint of potatoes when potatoes are on sale for 40 cents a pound at Giant. They could get nearly five dozen eggs at Giant for the $5 Obama spent for her dozen.

But whatever the socioeconomics, there can be no doubt that Obama brought some serious attention to her cause. Hundreds of people crowded the market entrance on I Street as police directed pedestrians to alternative subway entrances. Hundreds braved a light rain and gave a hearty cheer when Obama and her entourage took the stage. "I can't imagine there's been a day in the history of our country when people have been more excited about farmers markets," Mayor Adrian Fenty, Obama's warm-up act, told the crowd.

The first lady, in gray slacks and blue sweater, marveled that the people were "so pumped up" despite the rain. "I have never seen so many people so excited about fruits and vegetables!" she said. (Must be the tender baby arugula.)

She spoke of the global reach of her cause: "The first thing world leaders, prime ministers, kings, queens ask me about is the White House garden. And then they ask about Bo."

She spoke of the fuel fed to the world's most powerful man: "I've learned that when my family eats fresh food, healthy food, that it really aff|||It's asinine isn't it??? Makes me ill.|||I heard it about today. The stupidity and arrogance of America's new aristocracy completely overwhelms me. All hail Lord Obama!

Should marijuana be legal?

Well, I don't think it should be, and this is why.

By making it legal. Many less trees would have to be cut down due to its a much better product for making paper. Which is why Dupont spent millions to make it illegal. Also would be very good for making clothing. For a pain killer, its very effective. And also is much less addicting then the current legal pain killers and has far less side affects. Examples of this is marijuana has killed 0 people. And pain killers have killed countless others through overdosing and destruction of the body. Saying this, is there really any good reason why it should be illegal?

P.S. Saying because its bad is not a valid reason. Also because of its effects. It does next to nothing. And doesn't impair judgment much. I know this because I was under the influence of the substance and passed a field sobriety test with no problems. And another time to while being stopped by cops. They accused me of being high(which I was) because my eyes were red. I consented to a field sobriety test to prove otherwise, but they didn't take me up on this. That's because the cops know that it doesn't impair judgment at lower doses. If you do answer in saying it should be illegal. Please look back to the question so I can destroy your argument. I know I will be able to because anyone thinking it should be illegal is clearly not more intelligent then my self. And yes, this question is extremely biased.|||There is absolutely no good reason for marijuana to be illegal. I think that as long as you can use marijuana responsibly (not going to work stoned, not driving or operating heavy eqipment stoned, etc), there is nothing wrong with it. The worst side effect from it is that it makes you hungry.

Penn %26amp; Teller have a show on Showtime called "Penn %26amp; Teller: Bulls**t," where they expose ideas that they perceive to be BS. In their episode about illegal drugs, they interviewed a retired medical doctor who told a story about his 12 year old son who died of cancer. The doctor had formerly been against any marijuana use until he gave some to his son before a chemo treatment. Normally, the boy would leave the treatment center feeling very sick. One day, his parents had him smoke marijuana before the treatment, and he left the center feeling no ill effects. In fact, he asked his mom if they could stop on the way home, and get a sub sandwich.

They also talked about a group of chronically ill people to whom the Federal government provides marijuana. The program didn't last long, but the patients who were admitted to the program will continue to receive free (that's right, I said free) marijuana from Uncle Sam for the rest of their lives. One of the patients was interviewed while smoking a joint on the sidewalk in front of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue (for those who don't know, that's the White House).|||Yeah but too many people would have trouble remembering that their alarms mean they should wake up and go to work.|||You provided more reasons why it should be legal than you did provide reasons why it should not.

edit; if you rephrased the question, why did you put that as your opening statement in the first place?|||I like it just the way you worded it, sarcasm is a great tool.|||It should be decriminalized.

People should be able to grow their own weed for their own use.

It should remain a violation to sell it or grow in quantity.|||Like alcohol prohibition, "trying" to make marijuana illegal has failed completely in the US! Legal or not, many people are using it! The only people benefiting are criminals, artificially raising prices, and making for an unsafe situation as criminals are becoming wealthier and more empowered. Our prisons are full with people who have committed marginal offenses (MJ, prostitution, etc.) because "Conservatives" believe they can legislate morality.

Alcohol causes many more deaths per year than MJ; if MJ is illegal, alcohol should also be illegal

(you can't have it both ways, Cons!)

Legalizing (and TAXING) MJ, just like alcohol, would give much-needed revenue to governments who are in dire need of funds, reduce drug-related criminal activity, and free our prison and court systems for serious criminals.

If you agree, WRITE YOUR ELECTED OFFICIALS. If you don't know who they are, use http://www.congress.org/congressorg/home and enter your ZIP.|||Here is an idea. make it legal.....except one thing

Have one warehouse out in the middle of nowhere filled with every kind of drug there is.

Only thing is it has a one way door. You can go in free of charge, do as many drugs as you want until you die.

solves

1. population control

2. removes all users and sellers(which are users), removes gangs, murders, etc.|||It shouldn't be legal. A lot of people act like it's no big deal. It damages your body and produces dangerous behaviour. (I know, I know, alcohol, but that's not what this is about). Legalising it would make it much more accessible, so more people than just the standard spaced out pot smokers and students, would use it. I think it should remain illegal, except for medicinal purposes (and in this case it should be tightly monitored).

Chainsaw Safety Pants - which ones are best? Will any actually prevent blade contact?

I saw someone cut into his leg with a chainsaw yesterday, all the way to the bone. Today I am looking at chainsaw safety pants online. Some have DuPont Cordura, Some have Ambush, some have Engtex, and one (Work Safe Chainsaw pants, online at Bailey's) have KEVLAR. I found some info that the material is designed to rip apart and clog the chainsaw sprocket so it stops running, but you could still get cut, just maybe not as long. I can't find info on the KEVLAR to find out if it is like the bullet stopping kind of KEVLAR, and thus would fully eliminate contact from the chainsaw blade, or is it like the fabric KEVLAR that is protective, but not much more effective than the other materials. Does anyone know anyhting about this? What is the best material to have, the best brand, the cheapest place to buy, and any other info that you think would be useful. Thanks for responding. Seeing that really freaked me out!|||Dupont Cordura is the covering. It is there to keep the insides clean. All chaps and pants I've see have this as a cover or at least a middle layer. Kevlar is the same basic material as the bullet stopping kind but used in a different fashion(we used it to make sails). All pants I have seen use the same principle:clog the saw. As far as I can tell any good quality pants or chaps will work well.|||well it all depends on if your going into a psycho rage and killing pedestrians..............or if you are trying to make another chainsaw massacre....... i would suggest kevlar for the killing and a fake chainsaw for the rest|||How often are you using a chainsaw? The best way to prevent cutting yourself isnt pants. It is using the chainsaw correctly. Chances are the person you saw did something he wasnt suposed to. If you are operating under the guidelines than the cut wouldnt be to the bone and any pair of CSP will work perfectly.|||The best way to prevent cuts from a chainsaw is a sharp blade, and knowledge to use is correctly and safely. Unless you are wearing an armour suit like in the middle ages, I know of no pants that will prevent cuts from one.

Why don't we use INDUSTRIAL HEMP, or at least explore the resource?

OK the problems are no longer LEFT or RIGHT!

The problem is that our government has been bought and sold by major corporate interest.

The looming energy crisis could be solved by legalizing INDUSTRIAL HEMP!

The only reason it is illegal is because way back after hemp helped us win a couple wars, DuPont, Big Cotton, Big Oil, Paper Company's and White Supremacists rallied to make it illegal because INDUSTRIAL HEMP would hinder if not make these corporations obsolete.

I am not talking about Marijuana lets get that straight.

INDUSTRIAL HEMP has very little THC (active substance in pot)

It is the strongest natural fiber know to man.

It grows faster than corn and yields more bio-fuel mass.

For 1 crop of corn a farmer could harvest 3 crops of hemp in a season.

Our constitution was written on hemp paper and it is still around, wood pulp paper takes virgin resources and excretes mercury and other terrible chemicals into YOUR water!

As a food source HEMP has more protein than soy, and has all of your essential fatty acids, omegas, and a grocery list of vita mins.

So this is clearly a situation that could be solved by repealing a set of laws based on GREED!

I am all about liberty, I am unaffiliated with either party.

Believe me though, i use hemp, smoke the hell outta weed and there ain't nothing "the man" is going to do about it. Then a few days later, when Eloise Lavelle was getting married to Mason Parvenus, we wore our pink and peach Ronde Vu halter dresses and three inch Debonair heels and pretended to be Mason’s cousins. Now, we really have to go to this New Years Party today. Jude Chevalier, director of the comedy series, “Wanted: Cereal Stalker” and the romantic movie, “That Thing Called Love”, has a son named Stephen, who’s hosting the party, and also a complete stud, might I add. It’s going to be at the Xam Palace. I had my 15th birthday party there, and it was spectacular. It had cost tons, but it was definitely worth it.

The reason that we have to crash this party is not that we were not invited. Well, I was invited, but Penelope wasn’t. She doesn’t really know the Chevaliers, but is usually invited to all the major parties. Gisele Braque and Yvette Jade, two of my other close friends were also going, and it made Penelope really upset when she heard this. I’m a great friend, and when I saw Penelope disappointed, I tried to cheer her up. Although I knew that there would be a guest list, I offered to make a copy of my invitation just for her. I had received it a couple of weeks ago. Stephen’s younger sister, Emily, gave it to me in period 2 English at Greenfield High School. Her exact words as she placed the envelope in my hands were “Keep it safe, we don’t give out seconds.” Apparently, the party was ‘invitation only’, and I was not allowed to bring anyone else. Just like my party, there were over 800 people invited, and it was very crucial to have an invitation.

I tried to be careful to keep my invitation safe. However, the day that I received it, it was raining. When I ran into my dad’s Mercedes, driven by our ex-chauffeur, Ludovic, it had fallen. I only realized this when we were in front of our house; but when I told Ludovic to take us back to the school, it was gone. Maybe someone found it, maybe the wind blew it away, maybe we weren’t quick enough, I don’t know. I cried throughout the whole car ride. It wasn’t fair: I worked so hard to get that invite. I was nice to Emily and Stephen all year. I even babysat for their little brother, Edward. I don’t know what I did to deserve loosing my invite. All I knew was that it had disappeared, whoever had it was going to pay in some way, shape, or form, and I asked my dad to fire Ludovic because he wasn’t quick enough to take me back to the high school. By the next day, our new chauffeur, and our forty-second, was Harvey.

Harvey, unlike Ludovic, was quick, but not too fast. I asked him to take me to Stephen’s house. My plan to ask, not beg, Emily to give me another invite. Stephen lives in my neighborhood, Parlor Place, in Amore, Corni. Parlor Place is huge, and not to be a complete snob, but the richest people live there… including myself. The houses there are mansions, named after the family that lives there. For example, Stephen’s house is called the Chevalier Mansion, nicknamed and most known as ‘Chev Manor.’ My house is called the St. Aux Mansion. Even though Stephen’s house is massive, it’s only going to be used as the setting for the after party.|||VERY confusing. I understand it's supposed to be in blog form, but in 4 paragraphs, you've dumped way too much information on your readers. You've got tons of characters and tons of places they need to go, you're dropping names all over the place (designers, shows, etc.), and you haven't given any background information whatsoever. I had absolutely no idea what was going on. Even though it's a blog, it still has to follow the general guidelines of writing. Maybe make each blog like a chapter or a short story. As it's written now, it's impossible to read and follow.

Do you feel like something is wrong?

First of all, thank you for reading this. I hope this gets through to a few like minded people.

Do you ever wonder what's going on? DO you feel like there's something 'not quite right' about our life and existence?

From a very early age I've felt this and it is getting stronger every passing day.

As human beings we're blessed with sentience, which is defined as:

"awareness: state of elementary or undifferentiated consciousness"

If we all have this awareness, why do we continue to be slaves in a society we disagree with? We live in a man made monetary prison: a virtual panopticon where we are tracked, studied, enforced and investigated without ever being told why.

All my life i've felt that we are not free. The older i get, the more this becomes apparent. I'm 26 years old now and i have an intelligent (thankfully) brain on my shoulders. Ive struggled to decide what to do with my life because no matter what course i decide upon, it seems to be pointless.

No matter the direction you take your life, you will always be part of this man made system where we have to work long hours just so we can have shelter and eat. I truly believe it wasn't meant to be this way.

Why are we not living in a world with free energy? (which is available, but heavily restricted through patents owned by exxon and dupont) Why are governments co-operating with a money flawed money system that can only lead us into global debt and enslavement?

If anyone else feels this way, please feel free to say something. Even if you feel the opposite is true, please express your opinion.

I am grateful for your time and always hopeful that something big is going to happen to better the world for all of us.|||Absolutely. Our society is based on money. And fortunately there is more to life than money. I have arrived at the american dream with a wife, two kids, house, good job, expensive toys, coach youth sports, sail, ski, go the gym, have friends. We always want something more. When we get there we still want something more. Its in our nature to want. The bottom line is that happiness is within. And we should work for a living. That's what I think.

Additional Information: Your are right. The system is flawed big time. Why because the sytem was created by the Golden Rule. Those who have the gold make the rules. I have worked hard and have arrived, sort of. But I still want more. I am soon moving to Sweden where I have more me time. More family time. More anything but work time.|||I agree with you...

When it comes to being free, we are free with many limitations.

The definition of greed is, "excessive or rapacious desire" which can be applied to all avid desires. greediness for knowledge, fame, praise, money, etc.|||We are what we are because we are. WOW! That's deep!|||The fault is man's ego, pride, and greed|||I agree.

BUT I now know that we have a greater purpose, God!|||I understand what ur trying to say.

but i think u might be going thru some depression or something idk|||the problem is that we are all born with material bodies. we are not able to avoid that. we also live in material world. we do not know why, we are just pushed in this world. Because we cannot just die, we have to accept reality. Yes, we are not free. We are slaves of our material bodies.

Nothing is wrong with society. all is wrong with our prison of our material body and our inevitable death. that is the worst problem ever seen!|||I truly, totally agree with you. Alot of things are not right in life %26amp; I've been feeling the same way from the very begining. I have always dreamed of living on a huge plot of land in nature %26amp; free from all of the stressesof life. I have a very good job, steady income but why do I have to go to work in the morning? I just want to be free because I was freely born into this world . I would like to meet like- minded people to start my life afresh.

Paint questions: PPG Deltron base coat/clear coat?

Im reading the tech sheet on some ppg paint I picked up from a store closing sale, And read something I though was a bit strange, or at least strange to me. The paint is PPG Deltron 2000 base-coat. It says wait 20 Min's before clear coat, but no longer then 24hrs. After 24hrs it (the base) must be scuffed and new basecoat applied. Why does it need to reapplied after 24hrs?

Its not a issue for me, I normally spray clear coat within an hour. I don't understand why clear can not be sprayed after 24hrs. This is my first time spraying PPG paint. I spray dupont paint for a living and Nason Ful-base b/c nor Chroma-base says anything about a time limit for clear coat.

Does the clear need the base to be fresh to bond to it? or what?|||My guess is the base needs to be fresh in order for proper bonding to take place. But, to be sure, I would ask the experts:

Looking for a Mechanical Engineering internship this summer?

Hey everyone I'm looking for a ME internship this summer but I'm having a rough time. I was told by my advisors that it would be really easy because engineers are in such short supply, and in theory that is indeed true. Yet, I can't find to find a job (intern) anywhere near where I love (Richmond, VA region - my zip code is 23060) The only company (that I know of anyway) that seems to have anything is Dominion and Dupont, can anyone knowledgeable in the field of engineering tell me all of the company websites I should check out? I don't know nearly as much as I should... I know. I've tried random search engines but it's really quite difficult. Going through all this makes me truly feel sorry for those that are looking for jobs that truly are highly competitive, wow.|||do you have a co-op placement as part of your program? Some colleges/university do have a few placements as a part of your diploma/degree progam.

I was lucky that I had a field placement in high school and college. It helped me alot!

Searching is really tough though. The only thing I could suggest going through the government website or checking out your local employment centre.

Good luck and dont give up hope!

Its too bad if you live in Canada - I could give you some a few links where to go. :)

Here鈥檚 a twist for you; I read every few lines, 鈥榳hat are you doing to stop global warming鈥?

Well I for one don鈥檛 buy one word of this junk science. I watched in amazement the US made a complete fool of itself with the 鈥榟ole in the ozone鈥?escapade back in the 90鈥檚. Now people with AC in the states pay far more for an inferior coolant than anyone else in the world. And for what? To make Dupont that much more profitable. Did Russia change? No. Did China change? No. Did anyone in South America or Asia, or most of Europe change? No, but the hole seems to have fixed it鈥檚 self didn鈥檛 it?

So my question for today is, As a vengeful person such as I am when someone try鈥檚 to shove something down my throat, What creative ways have you found to fight back against the 鈥榞reenies鈥?who are trying to force their beliefs, ideals and new age religion down your throat?

I for one love open air burning. We have big campfires every weekend as a family. Not only do we burn the wood to grill over, but when we are finished, we burn our trash as well, all the plastic, paper etc. The only things we can鈥檛 burn are the cans, which we make sure, go into the trash. Not the recyclable, but the landfill. I know the fun and time spent with my family doing such things is something they will carry with them for a lifetime, hopefully emulating these same common sense steps.

So what ways having you found to gouge back, even if it鈥檚 just a little.|||I try to make sure I don't leave a mess, but I too love sitting around the campfire. I have no intentions of stopping. I think these family times are far more important than living by some standereds that some kooks have dreamed up, but who refuse to live in the same way. Gore is a fine example. of a two faced hypocrite.|||I'm not sure there is actually a question in what you are asking, seems like more of a rant about environmentalism and your childish counter to it!

The Montreal Protocol banning CFC's has 191 countries signed on, including all the countries you mention in your question, they have all been included since the 80's.|||Perhaps this might help. The ozone layer is much too high for the CFC to get there. The ozone layer is very high and is caused from the solar winds collide with the earth's magnetic field. The only gas there is from the solar winds ,and nothing from down here not even hydrogen..|||How dare you, you just don't care. Those cans, if recycled could have become a new home for some homeless person in south Africa. Now they must sleep in the jungle night, without protection from god only knows what.

You are just pure evil.|||Gouging back seems so pointless. I understand not agreeing with someone, but why would you go out of your way to do the opposite of what they're doing?

Just take it easy man....life's much better that way.|||I've been exhaling half as often.|||Try not to eat too much Mexican food so I don't fart as much.|||I have an idea...there are plenty of therapists out there to help. Seek one!|||Fuzzcat T. What nation are you from?|||im not changing a fu*king thing.|||I got myself an SUV and don't even attempt to carpool to work. We also go through about 100 cans of beer/soda a week at my house and never recycle. Sometimes the homeless Chinese woman that lives nearby will pick them out of the trash, but I don't mind this since she is doing it for the money and not to save the world. Unfortunately, starting in August they are going to make failure to recycle a fine-able offense in my community. Can you believe that? I'm taking a stand against it. Now I know what George Washington must have felt like.|||You are quite right about the so called "scare" with the hole in the ozone back in the 90's, and the move to our now inferior refrigerant we use in our air conditioners. You can thank "Mr. Green" himself (Al Gore) for that. You are also correct in saying that the ozone hole did indeed repair itself, with NO help from Mr. Al Gore. An effective way to fight back against this envrionmental "brainwashing" by the "greens" is to simply not buy into it. Right now, we have those stupid wiggly light bulb things that everyone has for sale in the stores. They say that it is an energy saving lightbulb. Well, guess what? You can do THE SAME THING with a conventional lightbulb. If you are burning a 100 watt lightbulb in your room and you want to save some energy, how about fitting a 75 or a 60 watt conventional bulb into your light fitting? You're doing the same thing. People will go "green" if they wish. We do not need it forced down our throats by the "greenies", Al Gore, the government, or anyone else!|||I think you're kidding yourself if your idea of gouging back is burning trash and throwing away cheap beer cans. Nobody cares about that low scale, not even the "greenies." I also think looking to China and Russia as beacons guiding America how to act is a bad idea. You didn't seem to mention their version of communism as an economic or political model we should follow?

That being said, whether you believe in global warming or not, why is recycling a bad thing? Surely you believe in trash? Why not reuse some of it. It makes less trash and is a cost effective way to do business, giving us all a less expensive product in the end.

Why is it a bad idea to search for cheaper more renewable forms of energy and end our dependence on the most unstable part of thew world? Why would it be a bad idea to have cars that emit less noxious fumes, even if they don't put a whole in the ozone?

Believing that global warming is a lie or a political tool or that you're just smarter than the scientist who subscribe to it is one thing. Believing pollution therefore is actually a good idea is quite another.|||Well the first task is to fix our schools so kids are smart enough not to fall for obvious shell game cons. Second restore the scientific method to where an experiment must be duplicable by a reasonable number of other scientists to check to see if it just a theory or verified theory. The theories promoted as unquestioned fact by the AGW crowd have never reached the verified stage because no scientist to date has been able to duplicate the results from the data independently.|||My dear, the environmentalists do talk sense - if u burn things in open air, the air gets polluted which DOES result in global warming!!

About the ozone thing, well people usually exaggerate these things only so that people get cautious and start helping in conservation of the environment. It doesnt mean they are plain lying or anything - they are just trying to get people aware of what might happen if they continue this way.

What is The New World Order And The 13 Bloodlines?

Hey, I love to study conspiracy theories such as FEMA death camps, 9/11, Anti-christ, sumerians egyptian and mayan link to Nirubu and annunaki and so on ... (don't think i believe everything i read ... i don't believe in many of them i just love to study them).

Firstly is their a special name given to those who study conspiracys or conspiracy's in history? and what line of work can you go into to do with it.

Okay now the real question...

Can somebody please describe the 'New World Order' and the 13 bloodlines in a easier way ... i've been doing my own research but everywere i find is these long overdetailed lists of the full family history of each bloodline and not what their aims are or what they control etc.

The 13 bloodlines are:

The Astor Bloodline

The Bundy Bloodline

The Collins Bloodline

The DuPont Bloodline

The Freeman Bloodline

The Kennedy Bloodline

The Li Bloodline

The Onassis Bloodline

The Reynolds Bloodline

The Rockefeller Bloodline

The Rothschild Bloodline

The Russel Bloodline

The Van Duyn Bloodline

Also as a 14th bloodline theirs a Merovingian bloodline which has something to do with the European Royal Families and also 3 interconnected bloodlines,

The Disney Bloodline

The Krupp Bloodline

The McDonald Bloodline.

If a NWO existed what would its aims be?

Also what is the Illuminati? is it some kind of orginisation or another bloodline?|||Well now I'm interested.

Don't know anything about this subject but I will soon.|||You need to get out more if you give this drivel any credence whatsoever.

Help! thanks to people who help?

Interview Script: Dialogue for Social Awareness

Sophie: Hello, I’m Sophie DuPont with the Dialogue for Social Awareness. Here with me today is Roger Jennings, a salesman from Houston, Texas. Roger, according to a recent survey conducted by Dialogue for Social Awareness, Americans are concerned about poverty around the world, but what about poverty in our own neighborhoods? The U.S. Bureau of the Census found that the poverty rate in America is currently at 12.5%. What are your thoughts about sending food and health care supplies to other countries when there is so much poverty here?

Roger: That’s a little bit like asking me who deserves to live in poverty and who doesn't, isn't it? I mean, if we send food and supplies overseas, then we are potentially taking aid from American citizens. But if we distribute the food and supplies to American citizens, then children in third world countries don’t get the aid. It's a no-win argument. Earlier you said the poverty rate in America is 12.5%, but the world poverty rate according to the World Bank is 25%. If we look at these numbers as people--women and children, thousands more are suffering across the world compared to just in America--maybe even millions. Again, I don't believe poverty is ever a "them-or-us" argument. Instead, we need every person in every developed country to help combat this issue, not just Americans. One country can't fight this problem. It's a world problem and a world responsibility.

Which sentence most clearly states Roger’s position about the issue?

That’s a little bit like asking me who deserves to live in poverty and who doesn't, isn't it?

8.)Read the following interview script for the Dialogue of Social Awareness, then answer the question below.

Sophie: Let me interrupt you for one second. You just said that every person in every country needs to contribute. What about those in America who are living in poverty? How can they contribute?

Roger: I believe that everyone can contribute whatever is within their means. This applies to impoverished people in America, too. A big difference exists between Americans living in poverty compared to South Africans living in poverty. I realize that when people are in the midst of difficult times, telling them, "Well, it could be worse," doesn't help lessen the stress of wondering where their next meal will come from. However, I believe that every person and every nation can contribute something. Even the smallest donation of money, goods or time can have an impact on a big problem.

Sophie: Thank you Roger for sharing your perspective on this social issue affecting people around the world. I've talked with a number of other people today as well, and many also believe that American responsibility begins with solving the social issues domestically first. Others didn't even believe world hunger exists, despite scientific evidence. The sheer diversity of perspectives means that these issues are not going to be solved today. However, the discussions being held here in Washington will at least bring awareness--and awareness is the seed of change. I'm Sophie DuPont for Dialogue for Social Awareness.

What do you think?|||Conservatives absolutely baffle and exasperate Liberals. Why? Because Conservatives appear to have solid beliefs while the Liberal is lucky if he can formulate some vague, hazy philosophy of things. When the Conservative argues with the Liberal, the Liberal feels he must lash out for fear of discovering that his whole imaginary world is just that: fiction.

So, Liberals preach "tolerant", but only tolerance for THEIR viewpoints. Anything else is heresy. Just try confronting a Liberal with the facts about global warming and he'll practically start foaming at the mouth. The mind of the Liberal cannot acknowledge that a Conservative is right because the fuzzy Liberal mind is like a shaky house of cards. If the Liberal realizes he's wrong about one thing, it totally destroys their whole imagined reality he has constructed for himself.

So when Liberals scream like threatened children when you talk about FOX News, or Rush Limbaugh, it is because their brains are not wired to accept contradictory information. I read extensively; both from the Left and the Right. I put my beliefs to the test by really checking if they are based on fact, evidence, and not just conjecture and a psychological construct.

Liberals cannot do this. It would destroy their carefully-crafted dream world existence.

Me and Penelope are becoming party crashers. First Agatha DuPont’s 15th birthday party in November, then Eloise Lavelle’s wedding, and now we absolutely have to go to Stephen Chevalier’s New Years party, because he is a complete stud! Not only that, but it is in the Xam Palace. I had my 15th birthday party there, and it was absolutely stunning. It had cost tons, but it was definitely worth it.

It is not that we were not invited – well, I was invited, but Penelope wasn’t. I just didn’t have my invitation anymore, or a ride. See, I got it, the invitation, two weeks ago. Stephen’s sister, Emily, gave it to me, and she told me to “keep it safe, we don’t give out seconds.” Apparently, the party was ‘invitation only’, and I wasn’t allowed to bring anyone else because there was already about 800 people invited, which is why the Xam Palace was reserved for his party. Even though Stephen’s house is massive, it’s only going to be used as the setting for the after party.

Since the main party was invitation only, I tried to be really careful to keep my invitation safe. However, the day that I received it was rainy, and when I ran into my dad’s Mercedes, driven by our ex-chauffeur, Ludovic, it fell. I only realized it when we were in front of our house; but when I told Ludovic to take us back to the school, it was gone. Maybe someone found it, maybe the wind blew it away, maybe we weren’t quick enough, I don’t know. All I knew was: 1) My invitation had disappeared, 2) Whoever had it was going to pay in some way, shape, or form, and 3) I asked my dad to fire Ludovic, and by the next day, our new chauffeur was Harvey.

Thanks:)|||It definitely needs a lot of work, there are grammar issues and you jump around a lot. It was hard to follow and get into. Was this the beginning of the story? If so you need to give a little more background instead of jumping in. Also, it is hard to see where this is going, do you have a plot and ending in mind or is it just going to be a bunch of diary entries with no real purpose?|||It seems interesting!

What is your attitude concerning tax-exempt foundations?

It is common knowledge that the super-rich of America's corporate world avoid taxation by channelling their money into tax-empt foundations. David Allen Rivera gives us a clearer picture of what is going on in his book "Final Warning."

"According to Rep. Wright Patman, in a report to the 87th Congress, it is because of the existence of foundations, that "ONLY ONE-THIRD OF THE INCOME OF THE NATION IS ACTUALLY TAXED."

"Before 1900, there were only 18 foundations; from 1910-19, there were 76; during the 1920's, 173; the 1930's, 288; the 1940's, 1,638; and during the 1950's, there were 2,839 foundations."

"United Press International (UPI) reported on July 19, 1969, that the top 596 foundations had an INCOME THAT WAS TWICE THE NET EARNINGS OF THE COUNTRY'S 50 LARGEST COMMERCIAL BANKING INSTITUTIONS." (That's correct. Read that last statement one more time.)

"The worst offenders in this racket are the openly Communist Rockefeller family. Among their major holdings are: Chase Manhattan Bank, American Telephone %26amp; Telegraph (AT %26amp; T), Eastman Kodak, IBM, General Electric, Texas Instruments, Xerox, Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing, Monsanto Chemical, Aluminum Co. of America (Alcoa), Armour, Bethlehem Steel, Chrysler, DuPont, General Motors, International Paper, Polaroid, Sears and Roebuck, Standard Oil of California (Chevron), Standard Oil of New York (Mobil), Standard Oil of Indiana, U.S. Steel, International Basic Economy Corp., International Harvester, Quaker Oats, Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel, Itek, Federated Department Stores, Walgreen Stores, Transcontinental Gas Pipeline, Consolidated Edison, Anaconda Copper Co., General Foods, Pan American World Airways, Colgate-Palmolive, E. I. du Pont de Nemours, W. R. Grace, Inc., Corning Glass Works, Owens Corning Fiberglass, Cummins Engine, Hewlett-Packard, R. R. Donnelly and Son, Dow Chemical, Teledyne, Inc., Warner-Lambert, Westinghouse, International Telephone and Telegraph (IT %26amp; T), Motorola, S. S. Kresge, Texaco, National Cash Register, Avon, American Home Products, Delta Airlines, Braniff Airlines, Northwest Airlines, United Airlines, and Burlington Industries."

Yet they pay no taxes. The rationale of such scheisters is that foundations are devoted to philanthropic work. Here are examples of the causes endorsed by such foundations.

"The Rockefeller Foundation provided over $50,000 to fund the Building America textbook series, which played up Marxism, and sought to destroy "traditional concepts of American government." Over 100 communist organizations contributed material, including the writings of over 50 communist writers. The California Legislature said that the books contained "purposely distorted references favoring Communism..." The Foundation contributed money to the pro-communist New School for Social Research in New York City, and funded projects for the communist-staffed Southern Christian Leadership Conference, led by Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. Rep. Cox said that the Rockefeller Foundation has "been used to finance individuals and organizations whose business it has been to get communism into private and public schools of the country, to talk down to America, and play up Russia..." The Foundation also funded the Kinsey Report, which heralded a new era of sexual immorality."

What Is The NEW WORLD ORDER (NWO) And The 13 Bloodlines?

Also what is the Illuminati? is it some kind of orginisation or another bloodline?|||What about Northern Dancer's Bloodline??

Ethanol vs Butanol Why has America chosen Ethanol?

I've been wondering this. Ethanol requires modifications to a Gasoline engine in order to properly work and doesn't put out as much as Gasoline.

Butanol on the other hand requires no modifications to a gasoline engine and puts out as much power as gasoline.

Recently Dupont and BP have teamed up overseas in the UK to create Butanol.

Since the 1950s, most butanol in the United States is produced commercially from fossil fuels. The most common process starts with propene, which is run through an hydroformylation reaction to form butanal, which is then reduced with hydrogen to butanol. Butanol can also be produced by fermentation of biomass by bacteria. Prior to the 1950s, Clostridium acetobutylicum was used in industrial fermentation processes producing butanol. Research in the past few decades showed results of other microorganisms that can produce butanol through fermentation. %26lt; Off of Wiki.

What can I do about my mom?

I've been getting into fights with my mom over very stupid arguments. The most recent has been over how much I play world of War craft. She thinks that every moment I spend on the computer is on the "damn game." in reality, I play about 1 1/2 to 2 hours a day on weekdays and about 4hours on weekends. Otherwise I'm looking at guitar tabs, checking my email, YouTube, research for my science competition class( recently entered an essay to dupont), and lots of schoolwork. It's gotten to a point where every time my dad comes home from work he gets to hear a story from my mom about how I've played for 15 hours a day nonstop from the time I've woken up until now. My dad asks me how long i've played and I be honest and tell him 4-5 hours along with any other information about what I was doing. This turns into a fight where my mom just says how im an addict and how it affects my grades(straight A's) and then I try to explain how I had to do a project and was trying to find a tab. I've tried alarm clocks or timing equipment repeatedly to prove my point and she just claims I fudge the results in my favor. I do feel sympathy for her considering she's diabetic and has chronic vertigo from an inner ear disease, but after 3 years of this I've kinda lost all sympathy. I feel very bad for my dad who has to put up with all of this. He said he's ready to rip the computer out of the wall because of the arguing. And when my dad says he will do something he does it. What should I do? I want my mom to stop and so does my dad, but I don't want to give in considering I have been completely honest. I have friends, a condition for black belt in kempo, a girlfriend, and a great grade average and yet my mom thinks I'm a game addict delinquent. Oh and serious answers please, no wow-haters and parents are everything kind of people|||you need to sit her down and talk to her like an adult. but if your not an adult im sorry, there isnt much you can do. It's time that we Christian conservative evangelical Republicans make it known that our faith and our values are no longer for sale to corporate America. It's time that we let the party know that we are the true base of the Republican Party. It's time that our issues become the platform of the party. We are social conservatives, and we demand that our needs be paramount.

We will no longer sacrifice them to a party that refuses to fight for them. They take our votes, deny us social programs, and promise us, like a mother would her child, that we can get our way maybe next time. We get them elected and then they crawfish and neglect the issues that are of greatest importance to us. Not only this, but they have the unmitigated gall to insult our intelligence by blaming it on the Democrats. Republicans had the presidency and the Congress for six years and couldn't get one single piece of meaningful social conservatism passed? They could not only because they would not, and they would not because they sacrificed our moral virtues on the altar of a pseudoconservative plutocracy bent on serving corporate interests rather than ours.

There is one and only one God that I sacrifice to, and He's not sitting in the corporate headquarters of Enron, Halliburton or DuPont. He is in heaven looking down on our party with a heavy heart. A party that has forgotten the poor, forgotten who serves whom in government, forgotten that this is a nation of the people, by the people and for the people.

Mike Huckabee showed in Iowa that we will not be bought and lied to, and we will be victorious against the corporate candidate (Mitt Romney). Huckabee is so far out there that he actually thinks that people should be civil, believes the Bible when it says that we should despise not the poor, believes it when it says that it is harder for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of heaven than for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle. The Republican Party has become largely that of rich men, not in monetary value alone but in greed and corruption. We need a man who will speak to the heart of the party once again - a Lincoln Republican, not a Reagan Republican.

Republicans such as Teddy Roosevelt, and the infamous but mostly unfortunate Herbert Hoover used to promise us a chicken in every pot, and stand up for the common man against corporate interests and the Washington establishment. We have such a man. A man that will lead our party and our nation as a beacon up on a hill. This man is Huckabee. This nation can be under God once again, put Him at the front of the line. A Huckabee presidency will fulfill these promises placed into the pledge by another Republican, Dwight D. Eisenhower. A vote for Huckabee is a vote for a return of true conservatism and the death of the pseudoconservative plutocracy. Let's make this the Grand Ole Party once more. I'm a true conservative, and I approved this message.

Michael Luke Myers|||Honestly I dont' know as much about Huckabee as I'd like to, however when he took his picture in front of the Christmas tree and refused to apologize for it, I wanted to vote for him, right then and there.

Before the election comes around, I would like to find a little more info on him, to make a truly informed decision.

While I'm still not totally a fan of any of the candidates, I somehow feel better thinking of McCain or Rudy in that position. And, at the end of the day, that's what's most important in these uncertain times.|||Seemed a little wordy, but I would guess that the guy is on the fence about Huckleberry.|||Huckabee had his own ethics problems as Gov. of Ak. He was accused of using campaign contributions for personal use.|||I don't no what paper you are planning to try to get this printed in -- but I can tell you that it is way too long -- and you are throwing in a lot of trite platitudes and seem to be trying to give a history lesson and a bible lesson....focus on on main idea and figure out how to say it in 20 lines or less. Doubtful any newspaper would publish it. Sorry, but you asked. I did read the whole thing.|||"When a religion is good, I conceive it will support itself; and when it does not support itself, and God does

not care to support it, so that its professors are obliged to call for the help of the civil power, 'tis a sign, I apprehend, of its being a bad one."

Ben Franklin, Poor Richard's Almanac

I speak with a lot of professionals in religious organizations. I find that they are retreating from encumbrances of parochial civil support. They find that they can be who they are in their chosen faith without selling out to a flawed strategy of selling their faith in the marketplace.|||As a conservative republican. I will most likely vote for a third party candidate if Huckabee gets the nomination. Huckabee may be conservative on gay marriage and abortion. But that's about it. The rest of his political record suggests that he is a big government liberal republican (aka a compassionate conservative).

Social issues like religion, gay marriage, and abortion; take a back seat to fiscal issues. I'll vote for the most overall conservative candidate, but their fiscal record and platform is the most important to me. Limited government, low taxes and reduced federal spending is the key to get my vote, and Huckabee does not adhere to those key conservative values.|||RRRiiiipppp....

That's the sound of the Christian Conservative right tearing itself away from the Rich business right...

What a great sound...

Music to my ears...

It's been an uneasy marriage in which the right has forced ridiculous gas prices and legislated morality down our throats.

What a beautiful day for America.

The story is most likely going to be called "camille-online", because it's an online blog written by Camille Daphne St. Aux. Also the setting is made up, as so are the characters, designers, etc. It's kind of a chick-flick book.

Here's what I have so far:

december 31st

3:37 P.M.

Penelope and I are becoming party crashers. First, we snuck into Agatha DuPont’s 15th birthday party in November.

Even though Stephen’s house is massive, it’s only going to be used as the setting for the after party.|||This sounds like a cute read. I like it, but you should deff add some kind of dazzle or flare to it if the girls get in the party like a shooting or something. It's your story though. Happy writing (:|||You wrote four paragraphs in which not a single thing happened. This is generally a bad thing, from a literary standpoint. Unless you happen to be Marcel Proust.|||That sounds really good...

I would definately read it|||Great story line although I believe you could use more descriptive words and detailed information to make it more alluring.

As the icy crystals frolicked and danced down onto the white bedded paths, the two fragile bodies scurried along, threading through the pillows of snow.

“James, how much further?” begged Sarah.

James lowered his eyes down to check. The sides of the map, being clutched by his trembling hands, began to crumple under his fists. His burdened legs began to slow to a stop, standing dangerously in the bitter Russian snow-storm which was now belting across his hardened body. James’ body was not use to temperatures of such proportions. Relatively slim and fleshless, his body was only protected by his red snow coat and thick black pants.

Sarah, bearing the latest 1924 ‘DuPont’ backpack, curiously began to gather her surroundings as she stood, waiting. Clumps of her black stringy hair began to flail in the coarse wind while her hazel eyes darted around, taking in the demolished surroundings.

To her right was a grey, stone wall. As she turned her head, noticing the ratty remnants of a black and white poster, her upper lip twitched: a spontaneous reaction of what she saw.

Her trembling voice muttered out the English translation written at the bottom of what appeared to be just one of the many advertisements of Leninism. “We shall go forward. Step higher with energy and unity of will. V.I. Lenin” The skin between her eyebrows began to crumple and mount as concern grew on her face.

“Well, unless there’s something wrong with this map, the cabin should be within eyesight”, James noted. He raised his angular, stubbly face trying to see past the ruins and rubble which had completely destroyed any sense of direction. “I don’t know, Sarah. Maybe it was a bad idea, leaving Jeremy in Finland. He would have known where to go.” Sarah looked to James with frustration building in her ice encrusted eyebrows.

“James…” she said sternly, “…That tour guide is was thief. I don’t want anything to do with him. I can’t believe he stole my handbag while we were out – that had everything: my passport, my personal diary and a quarter of our holiday fund ….he probably stole it for that harlot of a girlfriend”. Just as she had finished mumbling derisively under her breath, a sharp crack mounted through the crisp air, leaving Sarah on the ground, wheezing uncontrollably faster and faster, gasping for air like somebody who had been stabbed by a cold, blunt blade. A red fountain of life began trickling from her knee, rolling down, onto the snow. The perplexing contrast of the vivid red, speckled against the white backdrop left Sarah feeling a little light headed.

James, maintaining his poise, uttered in a coercive voice, “Sarah; I want you to jump on the count of three. OK?”

“You want me to what?”

“One…” Sarah’s weak, broken body hurriedly ascended, preparing for the abnormal event.

“Two…”

“Three”

As they leapt up through the thin air, their stomachs maintained momentum towards the sky only to be flung back down, plummeting back towards the bedding of snow. Sarah was the first to feel her boots breaking through the layer of crunchy snow only to realise that she wasn’t coming to a stop. Her brown leather boots continued, jolting down through the layer of snow, splitting the ground into pieces and falling through. Shards of wood exploded around Sarah and James as their weighted bodies continued dropping further into the ground. As they plummeted down into the darkness, under the ground, a cold floor immediately halted their momentum.

Their frames lay like innocent rag dolls, in the dank, frigid air of the old underground tunnel.

“w..wh..where are we?”, James murmured with a distinct groan. Battering open his eyelids, his eyes were now ready to adjust to the darkness. Raising his head, in the distance he could see a faint light: at the end of the tunnel, a dim glow of yellow light. “Sarah…. are you ok? I think I can see a way out.” His trembling yet timid voice echoed through the emptiness, resonating off the stone walls.

“Uughhh… yes I’m…. I will manage”, replied Sarah, with what was left of her waning breath.

“James…” As Sarah began to express concern, a distant rattling noise echoed through the tunnel: the noise of a rolling metal, like the sound of a scuttling train. “James - we need to leave.” Sarah’s feeble body rose up off the cold cement, in order to look behind them. She could see somebody coming: the shadow of a figure and a trolley could be seen approaching the vulnerable tourists. As the figure moved closer towards them, the sound of footsteps accompanied with the tinny rattle of the trolley grew ever closer. Sarah felt her pulse pumping and throbbing throughout her body. Her breathing grew heavy, gasping for air. James extended his arm out, t|||It's not finished yet, is it?
