Are S.T. Dupont lighters worth their price?

Hello there,

A DuPont lighter is a luxury item as with any luxury item, I do not think you can justify the price solely on function. You can light a cigar just as well with a $1 disposable lighter as you can with a DuPont lighter. The DuPont is classier looking. I have owned 3. I like the heft of my old silver DuPont. Later I bought a newer style silver DuPont. That was around 1995. The feel was not nearly as impressive. I also bought a gold DuPont that year. I had the gold DuPont stolen within 48 hours. I left it on the car seat and some one broke in to steal it. Lost a $450 lighter that fast. I still have the 2 silver ones. I don't carry them. No one breaks into my car to steal a beat up old Zippo.

The DuPont lighter will need repair or servicing from time to time. That is not cheap. Each time I had to send a lighter in for service, DuPont charged me around $75.

They work fine. They look great. If you have the money for one and have the need to show the world you can afford a DuPont lighter, it will satisfy your need. Is it worth the price? Depends how badly you need to show the world you can afford to spend $250 to $450 on a lighter.

Later,|||. I have owned Dupont lighters for 40 years, and I love them more than the Van Cleef and Arpels that my father gave me. Not trying to impress anyone, but just satisfying my own standards.
