Two female relatives (early 20s) are coming in just for this Sunday, so we will have a few hours and that's it.
I live in Dupont and wouldn't mind walking a bit. What are some things we can see or do that are within an hour's walk of my apt?
Best would be a bunch of things that are in the same general direction.
Museums, shopping, monuments, etc etc .
I have only been here about a year and don't get out much.
Thanks!
.|||I like to show visitors the real city, as opposed to the touristy areas. If your relatives are in their 20s and you're in Dupont, try a day of shopping along U Street and in Adams Morgan. There are tons of cute independent boutiques, and you can cap it off with a cupcake from CakeLove. Or, if your relatives are a little less on the indie side of things and a little more in to pop culture, do the same thing but in Georgetown (stopping at TV-famous Georgetown Cupcake).
If that doesn't sound like fun, here are a few more suggestions:
* Are they in to art? Metro down to the Torpodo Factory (at the Alexandria waterfront). It's a huge building filled with artist's studios.
* Go to the zoo. I hear they have adorable lion cubs right now.
* Are they religious? DC has some really gorgeous religious buildings that are worth seeing just for the architecture. If they're religious it would be a nice treat. The National Cathedral and the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception are by far the two biggest, but Saint Matthew's Cathedral at Connecticut and Rhode Island Aves is close to Dupont and is unbelievably gorgeous on the inside, and the Franciscan Monastery in Brookland is neat too. If they're Jewish the historic synagogue at 6th and Eye Streets is pretty and often has events. If you're Islamic, the mosque on Massachusetts Avenue is one of the best in America.
* Do they like reading? City libraries aren't that great, but you can't top the Library of Congress for interest or beauty.
* There's always the fallback: The monuments and/or any of the Smithsonian museums.
* If shopping sounds like fun but you prefer a single location to wandering neighborhoods, try Eastern Market.|||The mall area is the safest and most popular area in DC. Among the sites - the White House, Captital, Washington Monument, Lincoln memorial, the Smithsonian, tons of restaurants, high class bars, JFK gravesite across the river in Arlington. These are all within walking distance and should be safe for you and your friends.|||When i went with my family,we went rafting. it was a lot of fun. we also went to all the museums and stuff. but some of the most fun is that u have to ride the bus. and we wnt shopping.but i think u should really go rafting.|||Take them to the washington monument %26amp; the world war II memorial .these tow are right across from each other.you can also see the lincoln memorial from the world war II memorial.
good luck, hope this helped.|||what house is nice
